FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (Part-Time)

Performs field work, managing work orders, and managing facility and property service contracts for the upkeep and maintenance of Town facilities and properties. Skilled work in maintenance and repair to includes carpentry, painting, facility system assessment, mechanical assessment, and structural assessment.  Employees in this class are responsible for organizing, supervising, and participating in actions needed to maintain town facilities and properties. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Managing the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings and properties, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, pest control, managing work orders, and ordering supplies.
  • Planning work projects based on service needs, maintenance, and emergency needs; coordinating work with co-workers; coordinating crews and contractors for projects; inspecting work in progress and upon completion.
  • Answering and resolving public and staff complaints.
  • Requesting and acquiring necessary resources for projects.
  • Attend meetings to represent said Department, including, but not limited to town council meetings. Work is performed under general supervision of the Assistant Town Manager and is inspected for compliance with instructions, conformance to established standards, productivity of the unit, and general community acceptance.
  • Identify and assess problems with town facilities to make a determination on the proper method to correct any issues identified.
  • Make necessary repairs to take corrective actions as needed to fix problems with town facilities and property.
  • Manage contracts associated with town facilities such as HVAC, plumbing, janitorial, landscaping, and others as deemed appropriate.
  • Obtain quotes for services needed and procure supplies and materials.
  • Collaborate with other departments when additional assistance is needed for in-house repairs.
  • Ability to use a laptop, communicate via email, and update work orders.
  • Operates a truck in a safe and efficient manner; inspects and maintains vehicles; and submits requests for servicing of the vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of construction processes.
  • Considerable knowledge of the functional operation of hand tools.
  • Some knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and roofing.       
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner, participate in truck maintenance, keep tools clean and properly stored.
  • Ability to work independently within a routine schedule
  • Ability to work safely around electric systems.
  • Ability to trouble shoot mechanical problems for various building systems.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Have a general knowledge of building codes.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.
  • Ability to maintain a clean workspace and have great organization skills.

       

Graduation from high school or GED is supplemented by a minimum of 5 years with trades or mechanical experience. The candidate should also be proficient in working with data and figures, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  A NC driver’s license is required. METER AND ELECTRIC SERVICES SUPERVISOR

The Town of Winterville seeks qualified candidates for the position of Meter and Electric Services Supervisor. Employees in this class performs supervisory and technical work directing and participating in reading, repairing, and replacing water and electrical meters, connecting and disconnecting service, and overseeing and participating in electric system support tasks such as electric utility locates and energy audits.  Tasks include working with staff Meter Technicians in installing meters, checking and repairing leaks, changing out meters, repairing or replacing broken meter boxes or parts, connecting and/or disconnecting service, and answering customer questions and complaints. Public contact is required in trouble-shooting problems with meter readings, high usage on bills, leaks, etc.  The employee is responsible for training new staff; work assignments; scheduling and leave approval; ensuring that work orders are completed; scheduling meter change outs; and purchasing meters, parts and supplies. Work also includes conducting underground electric service for locate service; supervising and participating in home energy audit program and conducting public education in schools on energy conservation; and serving as the Town’s mosquito control officer.  Oversees, coordinates and participate in vehicle maintenance. Performs related duties as required. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated on the basis of complaint activity, effectiveness of the meter maintenance program, and accuracy of readings taken and records made.

.Graduation from high school and considerable electrical meter or related utility field work and ability to work with figures and data; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license; ability to obtain Public Pesticide Operator license and “C” Distribution certification within timeframes specified by the Town. PARKS AND RECREATION BASEBALL SCOREKEEPER

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for Baseball Scorekeeper. An employee in this class is responsible for running the scoreboard; keeping the books; general game supervision; and setting up before and breaking down after games. PARKS AND RECREATION CONCESSION ATTENDANT

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for Concessions Attendant. An employee in this class is responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of a concession stand to include operating concession equipment; preparing food; serving food; cleaning and sanitizing to government regulated health standards; opening, operating, and closing cash drawer; compiling daily financial reports. In addition, an employee in this class may provide general support for events and programs to include equipment set-up and breakdown; trash pick up and disposal; facility cleaning; and general athletic field maintenance. PARKS AND RECREATION SITE SUPERVISOR

The Town of Winterville Parks and Recreation seeks qualified candidates for the position of Site Supervisor. An employee in this class provides evening and weekend facility supervision of part-time employees. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. The Site Supervisor will be directly responsible for (but not limited to): opening and closing of facilities, upholding facility/departmental rules, supervision of part-time employees (concessions, scorekeepers, officials, etc.), monitoring weather conditions, monitoring facility, providing a positive and safe environment for children/participants, handling emergencies and/or injuries, filing reports on all incidents, interacting with the public, identifying and solving problematic situations. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, an energetic and self-motivated personality, and strong leadership capabilities.

PART-TIME FIRE ENGINEER

The Town of Winterville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of part-time Fire Engineer. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, operating and maintaining emergency apparatus and equipment, performing firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical care, fire and life safety education, and other duties as assigned. Work also includes cleaning and maintenance of vehicles and facilities, in-service training, training, and mentoring other firefighters, and aiding members of volunteer fire and emergency medical service organizations, as requested. Applicant must be able to follow and understand standard operating guidelines and Pitt County EMS Protocols. Employees in this class are exposed to the significant hazards of emergency fire, rescue, and EMS work, including risk of exposure to hazardous and IDLH environments, physical and mental stress, human body fluids, and infectious diseases, thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens. Ability to function on a regular basis while using personal protective equipment including SCBA is required.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent with a North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commission Driver Operator-Pumps, Emergency Vehicle Driver, Firefighter I-II and at least 3 years of field service required. Qualified applicants must also be EMT-Basic, NIMS compliant, have the ability to pass Medical Boards and function in Pitt County per Medical Director’s requirements, and have a valid North Carolina Class B Non-CDL Driver’s License. POLICE OFFICER
