Winterville Walks

Join us Tuesday, November 19th for a community, youth-focused "walk audit" starting at the main Town buildings from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Winterville Walks

Join us for Winterville Walks!, a youth - centered community walk audit on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm. Walk audits are a useful tool to assess street safety, comfort, and design, especially for people on foot, and engage community members in understanding and improving their neighborhoods. All ages welcome - kids especially are encouraged! Free. No materials needed - just wear a pair of comfortable shoes. Learn more and sign up here (space is limited!)

The Town of Winterville has been awarded a $10,000 “mini grant” (see announcement) for improving street safety for youth (and the rest of our community!). Temporary changes are coming to three intersections along Cooper St, Main St, Church St, and Academy St! In early May 2024, with help from community members like you, the Town of Winterville will install low-cost, temporary curb extensions and high visibility crosswalks at three intersections that aim to make these streets safer to walk, bike, and drive on. The goal of our project is to test out intersection changes to make walking, biking, and rolling to schools and parks easier, safer, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Quick Build Volunteers Needed: You are invited to help install temporary curb extensions and high visibility crosswalks at three intersections in central Winterville on May 4, 5, and 6! No experience necessary. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to help make our streets safer for kids and community members (and who don't mind wielding a paint roller!).
